Finlay, Mike
Mike is the Managing Director, Europe, Middle
East, Africa and Asia-Pacific for RiskBusiness
based in London.
Mike has 18 years experience in banking and
finance focused on risk, having started out
pricing equity derivatives on the Johannesburg
Stock Exchange. He has been responsible for
establishing new business departments in the
derivatives area, restructuring international
Risk Knowledge Network, Inc.

payments businesses, developing regulatory banking law and
implementing risk management frameworks including for Barclays Bank of
South Africa, Nedbank, De Beers, and Anglo American Corporation. He
also developed the initial risk management framework for the Bond Market
Exchange of South Africa. His focus on risk has included technology, risk
assessment and training. He has done work for Central Bank of Thailand.
Mike has authored articles, papers and book chapters published in
respected publications including RiskBooks, RMA Journal including being
interviewed by the WSJ. He has lectured on operational risk including for
the BIS, Bank of Japan, IFC/World Bank, and at events in the US, Europe,
South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.
Mike has most recently worked on the development of the KRI Framework
underlying the KRIeX.org KRI Library (an initiative with the RMA). He Chairs
a best practices sub-committee for the Association of Russian Banks.
Mike is a fellow of the South African Institute of Bankers, fellow of the
Institute of Operational Risk UK & a member of the Institute of Directors UK.
He is a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg and a MBA from Brunnel University in England.
