Dr. Kawaller, Ira G.
Ira is the Managing Partner for The Kawaller
Fund. He is also the President of Kawaller &
Company, LLC – a consulting company that
specializes in assisting commercial enterprises
in their use of derivative instruments for risk
management purposes.
Before founding his companies, Ira was the Vice
President-Director of the New York Office of the
Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In that capacity,

he was responsible for promoting financial futures and options to the
professional financial community. Before the CME, he held positions at J.
Aron & Company, AT&T, and Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System.
A prolific author, Ira’s articles have appeared in numerous respected
publications including The Financial Analyst’s Journal, The Journal of
Derivatives, GARP Risk Review, and Risk Magazine. In addition to these
articles, he has also authored several books on financial futures and
options, including Management Guide for Preparing Hedging
Documentation (co-authored), published by the Association for Financial
Professionals, 2002. He has also contributed to many books and speaks
frequently at leading events.
Ira is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Derivatives
Implementation Group (DIG), and much of his work in recent years has
related to aspects of FAS 133. He has been a trustee of the Futures
Industry Institute and the Securities Industry Institute; member of the board
of directors of the International Association of Financial Engineers.
Ira has held adjunct professorships at Columbia U. & Polytechnic U.
Ira has a M.A. from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. from Purdue
University – both in economics.
